Hyosung GT250R Review

Pune based D.S. Kulkarni Motowheels launched DSK Hyosung GT 250R in June 2012. Initially, Korea based bike maker Hyosung was selling its bikes with Garware Motors in India. DSK group took over Garware Motors in 2012 and decided to continue assembling, marketing and selling Korean bike maker’s bikes.

Style

Bike’s chrome-finished exhaust, alloy wheels, digital display, an aerodynamic body, LED tail lamp, and two stage projection beams are good enough to introduce Hyosung as a serious “bike.”

Silver-red, red-black, and white-red are some of the color combinations available to choose from. Pillion seat is comfortable; rider can sit comfortably, and can rely on pillion grab-rail for support while travelling long distances.

Speed and control

Hyosung GT 250R’s 249 CC, 4-stroke, oil Cooled engine can reach top speed of 140 KMPH. Its five speed gearbox can show its magic while on highways. Bike’s engine can reach 0 to 60 KMPH in 4.1 seconds. It offers mileage of around 30 KMPL. GT 250R’s 17 liters fuel tank is good enough.

Its dashboard consists of analogue tachometer, digital speedometer with trip meter, side-stand alarm, digital fuel gauge, clock, low oil and fuel indicator. Inverted telescopic suspension system manages front suspension, while hydraulic mono shock suspension manages rear suspension. Thanks to its dual lateral bar frame, the bike is light in weight.

Braking system seems impressive. It consists of progressive linkage hydraulic disc brake in the rear, and hydraulic double disc brake in the front. 155mm ground clearance is good to go.

Competition

Hyosung had launched Comet 250 and Aquila 250 in the Indian market during 2004, and both were able to gain enough popularity to help Hyosung in putting its tent in India. But the scene has drastically changed due to increased competition during the last few years.

Hyosung GT 250R is often compared with Honda CBR250R, and Kawasaki Ninja 300. When it comes to travelling on city roads, GT250R fails to impress in-front of its competitors. Some users do not seem to be happy about bike’s tubeless Shinko tyres, as they fail to generate confidence with traction. But overall reviews from bike owners and experts suggest that Hyosung GT 250R is one of India’s best racy, sporty, and no-nonsense bikes. Bike offers maximum joy and excitement while on highways. The bike comes with price tag of around Rs 3 lakh. Price may vary depending on applicable taxes.

According to experts, Indian superbike market’s sales figures are expected to be nearby 10,000 during 2015. DSK Hyosung aims to sell at-least 2,800 units during this year. Bike maker managed to set new record even during slowdown

DSK Hyosung made it in headlines when the company managed to sell 145 units of Aquila Pro bike during the first two months from its launch date. Aquila Pro is bike maker’s 650cc engine powered superbike with price tag of around Rs 5 Lakh. This bike was launched in January 2013, and the company made impressive sales record by March 2013.

During the same period, bike makers like TVS, Bajaj, and Hero Moto Corp were struggling to keep their account books straight. This was turning point for superbike industry in India, as even Harley-Davidson also reported 78 per cent rise in sales in Indian market during same period. These figures were enough to prove that Indian bike lovers can spend money in buying super bikes, if they get the right products.

DSK Hyosung’s chairman, Shirish Kulkarni recently interacted with journalists. He shared the information that the company plans to manufacture and sell 125cc, 150cc bikes and enter scooter segment as well. Kulkarni also said that all the new vehicles are expected to be launched in 2016, and will be sold under DSK Hyosung brand name. Currently, the company sells Hyosung bikes like GT250R, GT650N, Aquila Pro, Aquila 250 and ST7.
