Ford Figo was first launched in 2010 and is one of the most admired premium hatchbacks in India. It got car of the year award from lot of rating bodies in 2011. The new modal has option of 3 different engines and is primarily developed in India. Due to most of the developments happening in India, it is better suited for Indian conditions than the earlier sibling.
Ride and Handling
The old Figo was far more stable and had better ride and handling than the new. It does not means that the new variant is unstable or drives always on the edge but when it comes to taking corners, there is bit of body roll which is noticeable. The coordination with what happens on corners and the steering is not great. However the car is perfectly stable while driving straight with top quality handling and is very predictable and safe.
Driving is stiff at low speeds and the suspension is not able to take up bad roads and bumps efficiently. The ride quality is however very pleasant at higher speeds beyond 3rd gear. The lighter steering feels good and perfect for city rides and is very smooth while changing lanes.
Interior
Figo interior is highly inspired by EcoSport. It is more close to Aspire through with similar dashboard, equipments, accessories and seats. The dark grey theme inside does not stands out but is quite presentable. If Ford has taken cue from Aspire for everything than introducing dual tone would have added lot of value to the cabin and the car as a whole. There are lots of storage spaces in the cabin where wallet storage below the air condition vent stands out. MyDock mobile holder holds one mobile firmly at eye level. The bottle storage on doors is big enough to hold as much as 5 bottles. There is a bottle holder for rear seat, 2 cup holders for front seats and another storage behind the gear knob. Front seats are big but soft which could be a problem on long drives. There is ample legroom for both front and back seats. Visibility from the driver’s seat is decent but the driving position is stretched out which might not be liked by few.
Engine
Figo diesel gets power from its 1498 cc, 1.5 litres, 4 Cylinder TDCi engine that produces peak power of 100ps at 3750rpm and maximum torque of 215Nm at 1750rpm. Due to the low kerb weight of 1041kg and powerful engine, Figo has lot of power at all bands. It would be the first car to zoom past the traffic lights in its segment and the 10.5 seconds it takes to reach 0-100kmph makes it quickest in the segment. There is ample of torque after 1600rpm, even at high speeds of 140kmph or 4000rpm you have some power left to shoot. The engine is responsive even at 5th gear. It has the best acceleration when compared to all cars in its segment. It has a top speed of 177 kmph.
Safety and Equipments
Safety is the primary focus element in Ford Figo. Its top variant Titanium+ has 6 airbags. 2 airbags are standard in all the variants except base model Ambiente which gets a single airbag. It has got one of the most advanced infotainment system with Bluetooth telephone with Aux and USB. Voice control is another great feature with Applink. The music system gets 4 speakers that works well. Some of the other great features include tilt steering, fog lamps, indicators on wing mirror and adjustable driver’s seat.
Mileage
As per ARAI figures Ford Figo diesel gives a mileage of 25.83kmpl which is not be the same in actual driving conditions. In actual conditions the car gives mileage of 15.4kmpl on city roads and an average of 25.5kpl on highways.
Verdict
You should buy this car for its great safety feature, power and dynamics, features, good cabin space and reliability of Ford. The only drawback for the car is quality of material used to build its interiors.
