Fluidic Verna was launched at time when mid-size sedan segment was dominated by Honda City since considerable number of years. Hyundai was already popular due to some of its value for money cars. So, the car maker’s sedan successfully attracted lot of car lovers. Honda City was only available with petrol engine, and it faced tough competition from the car that is available in petrol and diesel version. Let’s take a look at some of the important factors about this mid-sized sedan.
Appearance
Sedan’s chrome front grille and door handles combined with its 16 inch alloy wheels, wider tires, and daylight running LEDs on headlamps are enough to show the efforts taken by Hyundai’s designing team while developing models released in 2014.
Plush beige colour seats, rear seat armrest, simple but impressive supervision cluster, height adjustable headrests, and fully automatic AC are enough to assure comfortable journey. Hyundai also takes care of small yet significant needs by offering cooled glove box, sunglass holder, 2- din music system, storage space for rear seat, and cluster ionizer for clean air. Cabin is good enough for five people.
You can choose your favorite exterior color from options like silver, stardust, phantom black, pure white and wine red. This car is fitted with driver and passenger side airbags. Curtain and side airbags are no more offered with latest version. Anti-lock braking system with EBD, fold able and electrically adjustable side mirrors, stylish fog lamps, rear parking assist system with camera, engine start stop button with smart key are some of Verna’s impressive safety features.
Headlights are equipped with sensors that automatically switch on headlights in case if surroundings turn dark. Plus, headlights also offer “Follow me home” function. Blue back light for door mounted switches and steering mounted switches will attract your eyeballs for sure.
Engine
Hyundai launched Fluidic Verna in May 2011, and the Korean car maker launched its updated version in 2014. The car offers mixture of safety features, advanced technology and good looks.
Even the latest models are fitted with powerful 1.6 litre petrol / diesel engine. Its six speed manual gearbox is customer’s favorite. Diesel engine offers mileage of around 23.5 KMPL, and petrol engine offers 17.43 KMPL according to Hyundai. You can also opt for 4 speed automatic variant. Verna needs 10.7 seconds to reach 100 KMPH speed.
Coil springs combined with Macpherson strut system manage car’s front suspension, while non-independent torsion beam coil spring manages rear suspension. Ventilated disc brake in the front and solid disc brake in the rear are good enough to control this sedan.
Competition
Verna is often compared with other sedans like Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, and Honda City. Compared to Honda City, Verna does not offer cup holders and AC vents for rear seat. But Verna’s engine is refined and quieter. When it comes to driving on city roads, Verna does better than Honda City. Hyundai’s sedan also offers better mileage than Volkswagen Vento. But if you are looking for machine that can easily overtake other cars on highway, Honda City may prove better than Verna.
Some users feel that the car’s rear seat does not offer good thigh support. Most of them also feel that car’s rear windows are small compared to those offered by competitors. As far as price is concerned, Verna is priced between Rs 7 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs. Price depends on the variant and features that you choose.
