After the much-hyped and talked separation of Hero and Honda, Hero revealed its new identity with a new motorcycle, Impulse. Impulse is the first bike to wear a badge of Hero Motocorp. Inspired from dirt bikes, it is India’s first ever on/off-road bike, suitable for Indian terrain, which includes almost everything starting from deserts to hills.
With its unique look, style and design, Impulse stands apart from other bikes and it is really difficult to avoid giving it a second look. Capable of cruising off-road as well as on the tarmac, Hero MotoCorp Impulse is a dual-purpose bike for regular normal city commuting as well as casual off-roading on weekends. Let’s take a look at some of the important details of this powerful off-roader.
Engine
Unlike its siblings in terms of specification, Impulse has the heart similar to them. Powered by a 149.2cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled four-stroke engine, Impulse generates a peak power of 9.7 kW at 7500 rpm and a maximum torque output of 13.4 N-m at 5000 rpm. It features a five-speed gearbox which shifts smoothly in the one-down and four-up pattern. The decrease in power and increase in torque is an effort by company to make it equally compatible on as well as off the road.
Design & Style
When it comes to the style & design of Impulse, it clearly shows that Hero has thought out-of-the-box in designing. The company has experimented a lot with its design, however, everything comes with a purpose. As every go-anywhere bike, the Impulse has a tall stance which purposefully pulls over the tank. Its shiny plastics and the exhaust pipe’s position catch your attention instantly. The raised front fender is another unusual styling of the bike that gives it a naked as well as sporty appeal.
Hero’s Impulse is available in various exciting shades like deep blue sea, tar black, grassland green, terra rossa and canyon orange. The bike has an edgy fuel tank that features aerodynamic shrouds and sporty graphics on it and is specifically designed to suit the off road area along with the smooth roads. It comes with LED tail lamp with high mounted indicators. The absence of alloy wheel cannot be felt due to its spoke wheels.
Acceleration & Performance
Impulse’s acceleration is commendable and it can easily reach 60 km/h in about 5 seconds and hundred in approx, 19 seconds. The powerful bike manages to reach the highest speed of 107km/h mark. The light-weight is the major advantage of Impulse that helps in generating excellent response with better pick-up. The performance of the bike, both on / off the road is equally appreciable.
Ride and Handling
Since Impulse is a new breed from Hero MotoCorp, its ride ability is a curious topic for many. The suspension offered by Impulse is excellent, both – on as well as off the road. It comes with front disc, single variant and rear shoe type brakes which have proved to be very effective over time. A nice upright riding position with wide handlebars gives the motorcycle a very comfortable seating position, making it easy to steer. The ‘stud pattern’ tyres of the bike give a good grip on the road and keep it planted on the ground while you ride.
Bike’s Main Competitors
Although there are many 150cc bikes available in the Indian market, Hero Impulse, being an off-roader is one of its kind bike in the segment. However, it competes with Yamaha FZS which is basically built to rule the streets. But no other bike will offer you the riding experience as Impulse which comes with the trust of Hero.
Placed among the 150cc segment, Hero MotoCorp’s Impulse has a blend of sporty appeal and ruggedness to it. At a glance, Impulse might not attract many but a ride can help you understand the overall dynamics of this powerful bike. It is a fresh idea placed amongst the most competitive bike segment of India and has not failed to meet the expectations. It is a value-for-money bike which can give you a fun-filled off-roading experience!
