A smaller version of petrol driven Indica Tata Indica Xeta 1.2 is launched by Tata Motors. The output is 65.3 BHP with a peak torque of 10.4 kgm at 2600 rpm and a smaller petrol engine is used. The new 1.2 litre range is available in 4 models – GV, GVE, GVS and GVG. This car is going to be Tata’s entry level car till Tata One is launched.
The entire range continues to be available in Salsa red and Lagoon blue color. The new variant follows the tax sops (16 per cent excise duty vis-Ã -vis 24 per cent for petrol model with 1.2-litre engine and above) offered by the government.
The launch of Tata Indica Xeta 1.2 is coupled with a limited period price discount of Rs. 25,000/- with a price tag of Rs 2.54 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). With the launch of this car there is for sure going to be a major price war in the entry level segment of the small car market in India. Maruti fearing the same already announced gift cheque of Rs 15,151 and Rs 11,111 on Maruti 800 and Alto respectively. The two Maruti cars are priced at Rs 2.33 lakh and Rs 1.91 lakh for Alto and Maruti 800 respectively.
Maruti Udyog is already feeling the pinch with a fall of its old horse maruti 800 sales by 2733 units this October as compared to the last year sales.
