2023 Yamaha MT 07 Review
MT 07 is lightweight, has a punchy 689cc engine, and has aggressive styling. Yamaha has sold over 26,000+ MT 07 motorcycles in the US, and it is one of its top-selling bikes. Many new riders have brought this bike and have been riding this ever since. The bike was introduced in the US with a price tag of $6,990; over the years, it has just increased by $1200 to $8,199. Many upgrades have happened since launch, like ABS braking, LED headlight, etc. Let us have a look at some of the notable features of the Yamaha MT-07:
Engine
MT-07 is powered by a liquid-cooled, 689cc, 4-stroke, 4-valves per cylinder, DOHC, parallel twin engine. The power delivery is smooth, giving a lot of torque in the low and mid ranges. It has a peak power of 73.8 hp, 74.8 PS @ 9,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 50 lb-ft @ 6,500 rpm. The bike works best in sub 80mph. At higher speeds, it might seem like struggling.
Frame and Suspension
MT-07 has a lightweight diamond-type frame for smooth handling and rigidity. It has a 41mm telescopic fork with 5.1 inches of travel. The rear suspension is single shock, link-type Monocross, and rebound damping with precisely 5.1 inches of travel. The fork in MT 07 is non-adjustable, but one can adjust the shock for preload and rebound.
Brakes
The MT-07 has a 298mm (up to 16mm) front disc brake and a single 245mm hydraulic disc w/1-piston caliper & ABS rear disc brake. Due to its lightweight (close to 400 pounds), the brakes are effective with a lot of stopping power and give a good feel at the lever.
Riding Position
The riding position is upright and comfortable. The riding position allows good visibility. The footpegs don’t hurt knees and are positioned slightly forward. This gives a relaxed riding posture to the rider. The taller riders might have less legroom, which could feel cramped.
Instrumentation
5-inch full-color TFT displays all the essential information like speed, engine RPM, fuel level, gear position, etc. The display is easy to read and can be customized to show data as per personal choice. It has two modes, “Street” and “Touring” modes. Street mode is a modern layout with digital displays. The Touring mode shows a traditional type circular analog-style tachometer. Yamaha Motorcycle Connect or Y-Connect allows one to connect a smartphone to the motorcycle. It allows incoming calls and emails, and message notifications. It also shows weather information, time, phone battery level, and connection status.
Tires
The MT-07 is fitted with Michelin Road 5 tires, providing excellent grip and handling performance. The tire gives excellent wet as well as dry grip. The wet grip compound is used in the middle, and the dry grip compound is used in the edges of the tire, thus making it perfect for all seasons.
Styling
MT-07 has a compact, aggressive styling that is distinctive and makes it stand out when compared to other naked bikes in the category. It has a minimalist design, a muscular fuel tank, has an exposed engine with a short front cowl. Bold colors and graphics enhance its hyper-naked character further.

The top speed mentioned is 133 mph, but I could go up to 109 mph on highway. Something inside of me said no. On the country road, I was able to go past 100. Due to the crosswind, I did not take the risk.
165lb rider, I was able to go till 115 mph on highway. I was able to reach 105 in not time but going for 115, it took lot of time. 115 mph was my fastest ever on 07.
